Thousands of Families in West Bengal, India Receive Title to Land of their own
The Government of West Bengal, in partnership with Landesa, is distributing land titles to micro-plots of land to 61,339 families living in extreme poverty. To date, more than 160,000 families in the state have received land and title. Bholanath Chakladar, one of Landesa's district managers leading the title distribution this week, is from a family that was once landless themselves.

A New State in India, and a New Opportunity for the Poor to Improve Their Land Rights
The Government of India is proposing creating a new state called Telangana. Landesa has launched a "land caravan" with our land tenure experts travelling the countryside to gather information from farmers, the landless poor, and local government officials to help guide the state's new land laws and policy. Today is the final day of our land caravan.

The Stanford Social Innovation Review highlighted Landesa's Roy Prosterman and Tim Hanstad in article titled "Fundamentals, Not Fads" as standard bearers of best practice for nonprofit management and succession planning.
The Hindu ran an article on how Landesa will prepare a draft land policy for the proposed new Telangana State in India.
The New Indian Express ran a story about the project between the Odisha State government and Landesa that won a social innovation award.
The New York Times featured an op-ed by Landesa Founder Roy Prosterman and Landesa CEO Tim Hanstad about how the developing world's landless poor routinely bear the brunt of natural disasters.

Events
Please join Landesa for our 8th annual Seed the Change luncheon to raise awareness and support for women's land rights. Academy Award�-winning documentary filmmaker, Megan Mylan, will be the keynote speaker and will offer a private screening of her new short documentary.
The film follows Monika Barman, one of more than 40,000 girls participating in a project developed and implemented by the Indian government and Landesa. Monika is a rural Indian teenager growing food to feed her family and sowing the seeds of her own independence in a tiny rooftop garden.
The film just premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and is supported by the Sundance Institute in partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
