Landesa, in partnership with the state government of West Bengal, is developing a new training tool to promote land legal literacy and strengthen land rights among rural women in the state. The program will build awareness about land rights among rural women who are organized under Self-Help Groups, community-level groups that encourage entrepreneurship among members.
The program will train Self-Help Group leaders to conduct land legal literacy trainings among their group members, using a training curriculum developed by Landesa in collaboration with West Bengal State Rural Livelihood Mission and the Department of Land & Land Reforms. A pilot has been rolled out in two districts in West Bengal, with agreement to scale across the state in coming years.
When fully implemented, the project has the potential to reach an estimated 3.8 million women in more than 377,000 Self-Help Groups in West Bengal.
