Globally, more than 400 million work in agriculture. Yet in more than half the countries on the planet, women do not have equal access or rights to the land they rely on to survive.
The Law of the Land: Women’s Land Rights, pulls together data from FAO, ILO, OECD, and from studies around the world to show the systematic barriers women face to realizing rights and access to land. Previous research has already shown a strong link between women’s land rights and social and economic empowerment.
This new infographic highlights the persistent inequalities in land and inheritance rights experienced by women and girls around the world, and serves as a reminder of what can be accomplished when women farmers inherit property, not poverty.
