While at COP27, Landesa staff are participating in the following side events, featuring conversations on loss and damage, Indigenous land rights, and gender equity. Where available, we’ve included links to register to attend or watch virtually.
Landesa helped to deepen the impact of USAID’s work through synthesis of existing evidence, new research on gender disparities and impacts of formal land rights, and piloting approaches to build awareness of women’s land rights.
A 6-module course for practitioners working on issues of land, natural resources, and agriculture to deepen skillsets and engage in online discussions with peers to explore best practices for responsible investment in land.
Four staff take on new roles to further strengthen Landesa’s work in Africa.
After years of being denied the farmland she had inherited from her father, Jebbeh participated in a USAID and Landesa program that distributed Amplio Talking Books, simple hand-held audio players with messages in local languages that raise awareness of land rights. Through this program, Jebbeh gained the knowledge and confidence to assert her rights, and her brothers finally acknowledged her inheritance.
The new funding is a direct investment in Landesa’s efforts to accelerate gender equality and arrest the climate crisis.
Securing land rights for women digs down to the root of gender inequality; radically, quietly uprooting it, overturning it, elevating women toward equal legal personhood at household, community and societal levels.
Thursday, Sep. 30th from 3-4:30pm East African Time | 8-9:30am EDT.
The webinar will present the research conducted by the Women’s Land Rights Practitioner Network, formed by Landesa’s visiting professionals from Africa.
