Darshana Shanbhag, MD Medical Doctor
Darshana Shanbhag, MD, is a physician practicing Internal Medicine and providing primary care in the Seattle area since 2000. She graduated from medical school in Mumbai, India, and completed residencies in Internal Medicine in Mumbai and in Columbia, Missouri, before starting to work for Northwest Permanente in the Portland area in 1996. In addition to direct patient care, she has been active in the local community organizing senior health fairs as well as in giving talks on multiple medical topics to the community in person and in the form of webinars over these years. She has taken an active role in several local county free health care clinics for people experiencing poverty and homelessness.
Dr. Shanbhag is the president and board member of the Seattle chapter of Pratham, which is India’s largest education NGO, working on improving literacy in underprivileged children. She has played an active role in increasing support for Pratham in the Seattle area in the past few years. Pratham has so far positively impacted the lives of more than 75 million children worldwide. In addition, she is a Board member at Hedgebrook, a literary nonprofit based in Seattle supporting visionary women writers on a global basis.
